1999 Mr. N. Soundararajan started Nalla Farm House A pioneer
project of land regeneration, conservation and development that had not been
seen before in the story of land development in Pondicherry. More than 30 acres
of bare land were afforestated and the soil was regenerated, more than 12,000
trees were planted and on 2-2-2002 the project was finalized.

Soundararajan had succeeded in establishing the first Farm
House concept in the real estate business in Pondicherry. In the beginnings he
faced a lot of difficulties. “…at that time no one believed in the project-says
Mr. Soundararajan - I was begging my friends to buy a plot of land…but once the
project was completed it was the other way round . people were waitlisted in
order for me to sell them a plot! You can imagine that the original price paid
by the first owners was Rs 50 per sq.feet….after 2 years the plots were selling
for Rs 400 per sqfeet: an 800 % more!”
Nalla Farm House project has an ideal location: 5 Kms to Pondicherry on the
Tindivanan Road and the area has developed a lot: more than 9 well know temples
are around, several plot developments have come up and the city is growing fast
and expanding along the road . What used to be a quiet Farm House is becoming
now a green country club inside the city itself.

Soundararajan saw this inevitable growth, the increase in
traffic and pollution and a new vision came up in his mind: why not discover a
new place, an area that had not been disturbed, without crowds and temples,
where nature was still preserved and birds and wild flowers existed in harmony?
Where to find this new place with less people and less noise but also close to
Pondicherry ?
Soundararajan tells us about his discovery in the following terms :
“I identified this 60 acres of unspoiled natural wetland in the back side of
our Ousteri Lake as the front side of it has already been developed…the idea of
promoting this new place where people could live in harmony with nature and
spirit, no traffic and noise, and in a natural surrounding with the lake view
in the front was what I was looking for.
My experience in Nalla Farm House has helped me to utilize the best of that
experiment and improve it in this new project :
